A second opinion on your website
Maybe your site is slow, or looks its age, or it was hacked last year and you're still not sure it's clean. Maybe whoever built it has stopped answering the phone. Do you need a new website, or does the one you have just need looking after properly?
That's the question a second opinion answers. We look at your site, tell you what we find and what we'd do about it, and that's the end of it unless you want more. It's free, and you don't need to know us, or anyone who knows us, to ask.
What we look at
Only what anyone can see from the outside, so we won't ask for your logins, and it makes no difference how big the site is or what it's built on (WordPress, Wix, Squarespace or something made just for you).
- What it's built on, and who controls it. The platform and how up to date it looks, who holds your domain name and when it renews, where it's hosted, and when the padlock certificate runs out.
- Is it safe? The padlock, the security settings your server sends with every page, and any out-of-date software showing from the outside.
- Is it quick? How fast it loads on a phone, on the home page and two other pages that matter to you.
- Can Google find it? Which pages are in Google, what they say in the results, and your Google Business Profile.
- Does it work for your visitors? On a phone, how easy it is to get in touch, and the accessibility basics.
What you get back
A one-page note you won't need a developer to read, and a 20-minute call to go through it. We start with whatever made you ask, then give you one of four answers.
- Leave it. It's in better shape than you feared, and here's what to keep an eye on.
- Fix it. A handful of specific things need sorting, and we'll list them.
- Restyle it. The bones are fine, but it looks and reads its age (and a restyle is not a rebuild).
- Rebuild it or move it. Patching it would cost more than starting again.
If it's a rebuild, we'll give you our usual ranges: brochure sites are typically £3,000 to £5,000 and online shops £5,000 to £10,000. Fixes and restyles depend on what's there, so we quote those once we've seen it.
If it needs a closer look
Some things can't be seen from the outside: which plugins have been abandoned, who still has a login, whether the backups would restore if you needed them. If the second opinion points there, we'll offer a full look under the bonnet with access to your site, and tell you the fixed price before we start. You decide whether to go ahead, and if you then have us do the work within 60 days, that fee comes off the bill.
And if it all turns out fine, you'll have spent twenty minutes finding out.
